The 4th annual See Jane Run Half Marathon 5K & Kids run was a success. We saw lots of smiling faces at the finish. We hope you had a great time. The weather was tough but not as tough as all of you.

The start area is at Gas Works Park on Lake Union in Seattle. The course is mostly flat and runs around the lake and through the neighborhoods.

Half marathon course

The See Jane Run Half Marathon starts and ends at Gas Works Park. Along the course you will travel through the unique Fremont area, over the Fremont Bridge along the Ship Canal Path and south around Lake Union. Return to Gas Works Park via the University Bridge and the lovely Wallingford Neighborhood. You'll get scenic views of Seattle waterways, floating homes, parks and quirky neighborhoods.

5K course

The See Jane Run 5K race is an out and back course that starts and finishes at Gas Works Park, the original gas works for the city of Seattle. Head along the Burke-Gilman Trail, under the Fremont Bridge and along the Ship Canal. You'll have great views of the water and the quirky Fremont neighborhood along this scenic route.

kids race

The kids race starts at 10:30 am. This race is for fun and will not be timed. Kids as young as 1 and as old as 12 have run this race. It is approximately one mile long (give or take). It starts and ends at Gas Works Park. We will have course marshals on the course to make sure kids stay on track. Adults are welcome to run with their kids, and we encourage it with the very young. All kids will get a race bib, T-shirt, Ocho Chocolate and a Medal at the finish.

water stops


There are 6 water stops on the half marathon course at approximately miles 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 and one on the 5K course at mile 2. We will serve TalkingRain water and SOS Hydration at all 6 stops. You will also find basic medical supplies and staff to help if you need it.

bathrooms

You will find bathrooms at the start line, the finish line and roughly every 2 miles on the course. You will also find public rest rooms along the course.

bike and bag check

There will be a bike and bag check for you at Gas Works Park. The bike check open from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. You can leave your bike at a secured bike area where it will be guarded. You race number will serve as your claim check. The bag check will be at the start. Look for signs. You can pick up your belongings after your race number will serve as your identification.

cheer Table

Look for the new See Jane Run cheer table with Tattos and Cheer cards. Cheer cards are signs you can get your family to hold with fun inspiration for the runners. All are free so check it out. The table will be set up at the Expo and on Race Day.

awards

We have some new award partners this year including Bia-Sport GPS, Run Molly Run jewelry and Altra Running shoes. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall winners as well as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age category. There are no prizes for the kids race. We will hold a closing ceremony at 11:00 am. All age category winners (or a representative) must be present to claim your prize voucher. We will mail vouchers/prizes for overall winners 1,2 and 3 only, if necessary. Your voucher can be redeemed at the race See Jane Run store. We will not ship prizes to age category winners. Vouchers expire 1 month after the race date. No exceptions. Age Categories include under 19, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+

seeding

Our race start is self seeded. We ask that any runner in the Half who will finish faster than 1:35 or and 5K runners finishing faster than 00:25 min faster go straight to the front of the line. If you are walking, please go to the very back of the group for 5K and Half races. The stroller / walk group is for anyone who has a stroller or who signed up for the fun run/walk. We do not allow strollers in the timed 5K race. Please start with the Stroller group at 8:45 if you want to run with a stroller. If you paid for the timed 5K and want to run with a stroller, you must start with the stroller group and you will still get a time.

Chip & Timing

For anyone in the 5K race and Half Marathon, you will be wearing a chip which will not start timing until you walk or run across the start line. Stroller / Walk registrants will not be timed. Chips are attached to your bib. Please make sure your bib is attached to the front of your shirt to properly be picked up by the timing company. Anyone without a bib will be removed from the course by our course marshals

Expo & Packet Pickup

Participants can pickup up their packets at our pre-race expo and extravaganza. Join us at gas works park on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m - 6:00 p.m. for food, kids jumpy house, sampling, packet pickup, vendors, clinics and more. See below for more information.

expo layout Join us Saturday, the day before the race, for a special one day expo that includes packet pickup, sampling, yoga classes for runners, run clinics on improving your running form and many others. We will have a Jane University round table of 20 minute clinics covering all types of topics ranging from stretching, to run form to nutrition. Bring your friends for a day of shopping and immerse yourself in all things Jane. We will post a detailed list of clinics here as we get closer to race day.

Bib pick up will be available from 6:00-7:30 a.m the morning of the race. Please allow enough time to register and/or pick up.

Parking at race

Gas Works Park does have a small parking lot which will accommodate a small amount of runners. Please be prepared to find parking in the neighborhoods in the area, as there should be plenty.

Training Programs

ChuckIt

Chuckit is an on-going program, so you can join at any time. There are about 100 runners and walkers currently in Chuckit. The program consists of weekday schedules geared toward self-training, a weekly group long-run plan, and a weekly group speed/interval workout. All of my workouts can be adjusted to suit your ability and goals. Check out Chuckit's website for more information.

Heart Zones Coaching

Join one of Seattle's premier Heart Zones Coaches, Denise Geroux, for a challenging 16 week training program for the SEE JANE RUN Half Marathon. Ginny brings 30 years of running and 60 marathon completions to her coaching expertise including two Boston Marathons. She has been a certified running and walking coach for over 11 years and has coached hundreds to successfully complete a full or half marathon. In April 2011 Ginny opened her own running and walking shoe store in the heart of Bellevue, Running Elements. Running Elements specializes in custom shoe fitting with a thorough gait analysis, biomechanical assessment, and has over 40 years of combined running experience throughout its staff.

FAQS

Prior to Race Day

Q. Can men run in the race?
A. Men are more than welcome to participate in the event. It is a woman focused event and expo, so the finisher prizes will be for women only.

Q. Are strollers allowed?

A. Yes. We welcome strollers for the 5K race only. We will have a 15 minute delayed start for participants with strollers.

Q. Are group discounts available?
A. We offer a 10% discount for people signing up in a group of 10 or more. Please complete the group discount form.

Q. Can I get a refund?
A. Entry fees are non-refundable and entries are non-transferable. This means once you have registered, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate, and you may not give or sell your number to anyone else. You also may not defer your entry to the next year.

Q. Can men run in the race?

Q. Where can I pick up my race packet?
A. You can pick up your race bib and chip at gas works park on 7/12 from 10:00 - 6:00 p.m. You can also pick up your bib and chip on race day from 6:00am-7:30 am.

Q. Can a friend pick up my race packet and timing chip?
A. Yes, friends can pick up for you.

Q. Is there a recommended hotel?
A. TBD.

Q. Is there a time you have to complete the half marathon?
A. The course will stay open for 4 hours to accommodate walkers.

Q. Will there be safety pins available for the race bibs?
A. Yes. They will be included in the race packet and the start of the event.

Race Day

Q. Where is the start line?
A. The start area is at Gas Works Park. Gas Works Park in Seattle, Washington is a 19.1 acre (77000 m²) public park on the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant, located on the north shore of Lake Union at the south end of the Wallingford neighborhood. Gas Works park contains remnants of the sole remaining coal gasification plant in the US.

Q. Is there public transportation to the start line?
A. Yes. There are buses and taxis that can take you to the start.

Q. Is there parking? A. There is street parking and a very small parking lot in the area.

Q. How far in advance should I show up to the race? A. You should arrive to the race no later than 6:30am. Please leave ample time for parking due the size of the event.

Q. Will there be a place to secure my belongings?
A. Yes. There will be a truck located near the check-in table where you will be able to securely place your belongings. This will be driven to the finish line where you can collect your bag. Be sure to pack warm clothes as there is a breeze off the water. We also encourage you to bring money as there will be lots of See Jane Run race gear and shopping at the Expo.

Q. Where should I place the race bib?
A. The race bib should be placed on the front of your shirt.

Q. Will there be water and Gu on the course?
A. There are 6 water stops on the half marathon course at approximately miles 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 and one on the 5K course at mile 2. We will serve TalkingRain water and an electrolyte drink at all 6 stops. You will also find basic medical supplies and staff to help if you need it. We are no longer serving GU at the water stops.

Q. Are there restrooms along the course?
A. There will be bathrooms at the start line and finish line and at all water stops.

Q. What time is the Kids race?
A. The kids race starts at 10:30 am.

Post Race Day

Q. What are the post race activities?
A. After the race, participants will celebrate with champagne and chocolate. There will be an award ceremony at 11:00 am and a Women’s focused Expo with food, apparel, one massages and more. Be sure to bring your money! You don’t want to miss out.

Q. Where will the results be posted?
A. Unofficial results will be posted on site on the See Jane Run website by end of day Monday, July 15th, or earlier if possible.

See Jane Win Challenge

Winning isn't only about crossing that finish line first. Sometimes it's about finding sanity, sharing time with friends, conquering self doubt, accomplishing a PR or just enjoying some good chocolate. Whatever it is for you, we know that when you step up to the start line, you have already won. We hope you are all joining us for the See Jane Run Half Marathon and 5K in 2014.

See Jane Win Challenge There's another way to win as well: When you know that every ounce of effort you put in is also supporting a great cause. I'm writing with the hope you'll join me in the See Jane Win Challenge, a fun opportunity to make your race count for something bigger than you, and all I ask is that you bring a dollar to the race. That's right, one dollar. Then I want you to run faster than me.

Every time I bend over to lace up my shoes, or pay for a race, I feel immense gratitude that I am able to do these things. I’ve watched family and friends suffer from physical disabilities, so I will never take for granted the ability to stand upright, to walk or to run. Running is a blessed gift. It isn’t always easy, it isn’t always fun, but it is always rewarding.

To that end, I want to use my running to give back to the charities supported by See Jane Run in 2014. At each of the four See Jane Run races, I will compete to “win” the 5K. For those who know me, you know I have never won a race. Not even close! This year I will donate one dollar for every person who beats me in the See Jane Run 5K races. And I challenge you to donate one dollar if I beat you. Please bring your one dollar bill to the race. I am going to run my heart out, for me, for you and for the charities we support. I hope you can take a few minutes to check out our charities that need our help in 2014 and do what you can. Things are tough for everyone right now. The economy has taken its toll on our friends, our family and on the causes we hold dear. One dollar from each of us will go a long way.
